Making a Difference... Online!

A baby-sitter who was in Grade 8 saved a 9-year-old girl from an online predator. Jessica was playing a game on a kids website when a man who was also online talked her into going to a chat site.

Jessica says “First he was saying lots of nice things and then he got really rude and nasty. It was scary. I told my babysitter, Christine and she came and read what the man had been saying.”

Christine says “I was pretty freaked out. You hear about this stuff on the news sometimes and at school they’ve taught us about this happening, but you never think it would be you!”

“I started talking online with the man, and called the police. The man was getting more rude and really graphic while we were waiting for the cops to come. Finally when they came, they kept talking to him and figured out where he was and called the police in his town, where he got arrested.”

“It’s a bit weird to think that I helped stop someone that could have been doing this to other kids. I’m glad that I remembered I should just call the police when something like this happens, and it’s cool to know I made a real difference.”
